This time last week I was gearing up for my first solo trip since having Elliot. What better excuse than a fashion show, right? It was my first fashion show andI have to say that Ralph Lauren did not disappoint. I wore a pair of Ralph Collection pumps and tried to channel the effortlessly chic Manhattan summer look with a pair of ivory linen wide legs and a soft pink oxford.
From the location (the Central Park Zoo), the Neverland theme and the naturally styled kids that walked the show I couldn’t have asked for a more lovely experience. It was an absolute breath of fresh air to see kids that, well, looked like kids. Rachel Zoe’s delicious son, Skyler, took a perfect sprint down the runway and little girls wore fairy wings while passing each other with high fives. The whimsey and excitement didn’t distract from the impeccable clothing that was both modest and stylish. Cheers to a company that allows children to be children while also, clearly, encouraging an appreciation for fashion and self-expression.
Here’s a simple day to night equation: subtract two pieces (jeans and hat) add one (skirt) and it equals a sophisticated, but playful look. I like the ease of this look and the effortless ability to freshen up and be ready to spend the night on the town is so great!
I’ve highlighted my necklaces, also. As you may have noticed I like mixing metals. And unconventional colors (black and brown, black and navy, reds on reds). All three necklaces have significant meaning to me. The silver, an imprint of my home state, was given to me by a best friend that I grew up with. The bronze was my first mothers day gift from my sweet husband: a necklace and charm with my daughter’s name on it. The gold, a unique coin that my dad gave me. To me, the best jewelry are the pieces that tell a story and have meaning. Why not put them all on together? Alone, they are simple pendents that may be lost, but together they make a statement and may cause a stranger to inquire about you a little more.
I hope this not only encourages you in the traveling light department, but in the dig deeper into your jewelry box and layer items that might be less visually “bold” for a completely new spin on an old piece!
Tomorrow: whether you’re hitting Sunday brunch or Sunday church service in a new town, I’m embracing (and loving) one of this seasons trends!
I love the relaxed mood that Summer brings to fashion. With fall and winters layers, there tends to be a more polished and put together attitude. These distressed jeans are one of my absolute favorites. While my husband likes to joke that I look like I fell through a lawn mower, they can be dressed up or down. There’s nothing like pairing denim with a simple black top, in my opinion, and it was perfect for a cloudy day on the beach. Don’t feel like a distressed look is limited to casual though; keep an open mind and an eye out for ways to dress these up during the summer. Think pretty anthro top and a pump.
