Today’s post is a little different. As you have probably become accustomed to , I post my photos first, but I feel like today you need a little explaining before you see them.
If you’ve clicked around on the blog, you will have noticed that I like finding style inspiration from unorthodox places. What you may not know yet is that I was an English major in college and am a slight (more like serious) literature nerd. I usually don’t like it when movies use books as scripts because I love imagining the characters as I want them in my head.
The post today is an illustration of that. When I started putting together Davis and Main I wanted to make sure that I had a clear point of view. My mind went wild with all sorts of different ideas and I had a hard time restraining my creativity. The posts today and tomorrow are two of my rabbit trails that Minh captured for me. She indulged my crazy idea, and I have to be honest. It was a blast.
The Inspiration: Miss Havisham from one of my favorites, Great Expectations. I think her character is so fantastically creepy that I couldn’t resist. The dress shown is one that I’ve had for (not joking) five years and haven’t worn it; I was waiting for the perfect moment to use it. It’s a little odd, but I think it’s so interesting to look at; just as Miss Havisham is. This shoot encouraged me to take it out of the archives that has become my attic and I actually plan to wear it on Easter Sunday. I hope you enjoy the images from this fun shoot as much as I enjoyed creating what Miss Havisham would look like if she lived in my house. Stay tuned tomorrow for another character revealed at the château!
